The best coffee is prepared with a Moccamaster
We are coffee buffs and when we travel, one of our aims is to discover specialized coffee shops. We also like to prepare excellent coffee when we’re at home, and to do so we use a Moccamaster. Many of you will already know it but for those of you who are hearing it for the first time, we’ll give you some more details, both about its history and its use and benefits.
The first Moccamaster originated in the Sixties
Technivorm are the manufacturers of the Moccamaster and it was founded in mid 1964. At that time, few homes had electrical appliances so Gerard C. Smit, its creator, who was also a visionary and a coffee lover, decided to create this great coffee machine in the back of his garage.
The first filter coffee machine was launched on the Dutch market in 1969 and was so successful that Mr. Smit decided to export it to Scandinavian countries. Four years later, and due to the fuel crisis, he put his creativity to work and decided to replace plastic with aluminium. And that is how the Iconic Moccamasterwas born, the KBG 741.
The Moccamaster family
Moccamaster counts with 150 staff members, and they are in fact a family. For example, Mr. Smit’s son in law is now the General Director of Technivorm and his grandchildren are also actively involved in the company.
But the secret to its success lies mainly in word of mouth. Thanks to the recommendations of satisfied customers the brand has grown a lot and has managed to distribute to new markets and gain new fans for the brand. In fact, every day, 2000 – 2500 machines leave the factory and since 1974, 10 million machines have been produced.
“There is nothing like a cup of coffee to stimulate the brain cells” Sherlock Holmes
In 2017, an independent American magazine, chose Moccamaster as the best coffee machine in the world. And we can assure you that a coffee prepared with any of its models is a guarantee of excellence.
The constant temperature of the water at between 92 and 96 degrees extracts the best of the ground coffee in just 4-6 minutes, thus offering a smooth extraction method that sublimates the coffee extracting its more complex flavours.
Guarantee and respect for the environment
Moccamaster offers a 5 year guarantee.
From the start, Mr. Smit focused on protecting the environment. That’s why it’s important to emphasise that Moccamaster is produced with high quality recyclable BPA-free materials. They have an extremely long service life so they practically accompany you for life.
Additionally, each Moccamaster has a solid aluminium case and the majority of parts can be dismantled, extracted and easily replaced in case they need repair, contributing in this way to the reduction of waste pollution.
As if this weren’t enough, the Moccamasters are very energy efficient. Their copper resistor that heats the water acts as an excellent heat conductor and once the coffee is ready, the machine automatically switches off. Only the plaque remains hot keeping the coffee warm at the optimum filtering temperature of 80-85ºC for 40 minutes.
How to prepare a coffee in a Moccamaster
The truth is it’s dead easy! You only have to put the right amount of water according to the amount of coffee that you want to prepare, then add the necessary number of spoonfuls of ground coffee to the dampened filter and voilà! You press ON and it instantly begins to prepare the coffee. It takes 2-3 minutes and the coffee tastes incredible!
