Causier: the new Paris café where creativity finds its place

Paris has a long-standing café culture, yet there are still projects capable of redefining its meaning. Causier is one of them. It doesn’t aim to reinvent the Parisian café, but to adapt it to a new way of living, working, and connecting.

The rise of remote work and digital hyperconnectivity has made one need increasingly evident: reclaiming shared physical spaces without losing individuality. This is precisely where this new hotspot finds its place — a space to be, to observe, and to let ideas emerge.

The origin: inspiration without interaction

The story of Causier begins with an apparently simple routine. For months, Arame Ly visited different cafés across the city. She was not looking for conversation or networking. What drew her in was something more subtle: the presence of others. A passing silhouette, a barista’s gesture, a carefully curated playlist, an unexpected look.

“I would go to cafés and leave feeling inspired without having spoken to anyone.” Arame Ly

This increasingly common experience became the starting point of the project. Together with her sister, Khady Ly, she envisioned a space capable of generating that same effect intentionally: a place that acts as a creative catalyst.

A name with intent: from cosy to Causier

The naming perfectly reflects the essence of the concept. It begins with the word “cosy”, associated with comfort and warmth. But the idea evolves into something more social, more open: Cosy – Causer – Causier.

An almost intuitive transition that introduces notions of conversation, community, and connection. The result is a new yet familiar word that defines both the space and the experience.

More than a coffee shop: a creative ecosystem

Causier is not just a place to have coffee or brunch — it is an environment designed to organically activate creativity.

Inspiration lies in the details: an open book, light filtering through a window, an overheard conversation, a beautifully presented dish, or a song that lingers. The space functions as a “living moodboard” — a dynamic canvas where everything contributes.

Design and architecture: feeling at home, but better

One of Causier’s core pillars is its emotional architecture. The project, developed by Espace Empty and CDLT, is conceived as an extension of the home: “the house you choose, not the one you escape from”.

At its heart lies a large communal table designed by Tom Ducarouge, accommodating up to 24 people — an element that invites both focus and spontaneous interaction.

Surrounding it, a curved banquette creates a softer, more domestic atmosphere. The concrete counter, robust and sculptural, acts as the central hub where coffee, kitchen, and occasional events converge.

The result is a balanced, functional, and visually cohesive space, with a photogenic aesthetic that never feels forced.

The kitchen: family heritage and precision

Leading the kitchen is Khady Ly, whose hospitality experience is deeply shaped by family influence.

This sense of abundance translates into a generous culinary offering, where brunch takes centre stage without excess or unnecessary embellishment.

Brunch done right: dishes that deliver

The menu combines recognisable classics with refined execution. The pancakes — fluffy and served with halal beef bacon, butter, and maple syrup — stand out for their balance and consistency.

The Breakfast Burrito, one of the most popular dishes, blends scrambled eggs, cheddar, red beans, sweet potato, spinach, and corn — a complete option suited both for everyday meals and post-workout refuelling.

The Salmon Eggstra Benedict offers a refined take on the classic, with smoked salmon, soft eggs, creamed spinach, and hollandaise sauce on brioche.

The sweet side: pleasure without complication

The sweet selection follows the same philosophy: familiar, yet distinctive.

Blueberry Pancakes are elevated with mascarpone cream for balance, while the Banana French Toast combines toasted brioche, caramelised banana, mascarpone, cashews, and coconut-lime caramel.

Each dish is designed to fit seamlessly within the overall concept — no excess, no unnecessary disruption.

Quality local sourcing

Causier places strong emphasis on ingredient origin. The bread comes from La Fournée Saint-Antoine, a local benchmark in artisanal baking. Eggs are free-range, bacon is halal, and smoked salmon is selected for its quality and texture.

Coffee as a standard

Coffee plays a central role in the experience. The beans, selected by Fève, are handled with precision to achieve clean and balanced extractions.

Here, coffee is not a complement, but a foundation — a daily ritual that defines the rhythm of the space.

Contemporary community: a place to return to

As mentioned earlier, Causier redefines the idea of community without imposing it. It is not a loud or overly social space, but one where presence is shared naturally.

It responds to a generation seeking balance between individuality and collectivity. That same coherence underpins the entire project: space, food, coffee, and concept aligned without artifice.
