The art of waiting (and creating)

There’s a phrase that’s been echoing in my mind lately: things take time. It’s no great revelation, but lately it’s been resonating louder than ever. Perhaps it’s because we’re now putting the finishing touches on the next print issue of CC/magazine: The Unusual Barcelona.
Anyone who has ever created a magazine or a book in print knows exactly what I mean. It’s a long, meticulous process, full of tiny (and not-so-tiny) decisions, constant adjustments, and invisible details that change everything. But this reflection isn’t born of exhaustion — though there is some of that too — but rather from a deep sense of joy.
Three months ago, the third edition of The Unusual Travel Guide Barcelona sold out. And now, with both excitement and a sense of responsibility, we’ve decided that this fourth edition will evolve: from guidebook to guide-magazine. A step closer to that dream I’ve long held: turning CC/magazine into a print publication too.
Looking back, everything makes sense. I understand now that this moment couldn’t have come earlier. That I had to spend over fifteen years working in other media, then create my own, then launch the first printed editorial projects with The Unusual Travel Guides.
Every step has been essential. Every project, a rung on the ladder. Every wait, a silent preparation.
We live in a society that rewards immediacy, where talking about process almost feels outdated. But if there’s one thing I’ve learned over time, it’s that truly meaningful things take time. They require maturity, intuition, patience. They need room for mistakes, for fresh starts, for taking shape from the inside out — not from urgency.
Creating takes time. Creating well takes even longer. And that slowness is valuable. Because it’s in the slowness where we find nuance, conscious choices, genuine growth.
Today, I want to celebrate that other way of doing things. The one that doesn’t rush. The one that doesn’t just aim to publish fast, but to publish with purpose. The one that honours the rhythm unique to each project. Because it’s not about doing more — it’s about doing better. About recognising that everything arrives… but only when it’s meant to. That creativity also needs pauses, listening, accumulated experience. And that when something finally finds its form, it does so with a force that could only come from everything that came before.
That’s why, in this moment — in the middle of the process — I feel a quiet kind of happiness. Because I know this effort is part of something greater. And because it won’t be long now until I can share it with all of you.
The Unusual Barcelona, in its new version, is much more than a guidebook. It’s the reflection of a journey. Of growth. Of a creative process that truly believes in taking the time. Stay tuned!
