Borneta: a new boutique hotel unveiling the true essence of El Born
In one of Barcelona’s most historic and character-filled neighborhoods, Hotel Borneta has quickly earned a prominent place among the city’s boutique hotels. Opened just a few months ago, this establishment has transformed a centuries-old building in El Born into an oasis of contemporary design, merging the historical character of the area with a modern, sustainable hospitality concept.

Following the opening of Le Grand Hôtel Cayré in Paris, Borneta has become the second European launch of Miiro, the new lifestyle hotel chain.
Located on the evocative Passeig de Picasso, Borneta offers its guests a unique experience. From its stone facade, carefully preserved and restored, to its interiors bathed in natural light filtering through large windows, the hotel achieves an almost perfect balance between tradition and modernity.
Among its many charms, Borneta’s appeal lies not only in its unbeatable location but also in its attentive and friendly service, along with its refreshed aesthetic in collaboration with James Thurstan Waterworth, founder of Thurstan. Here, attention to detail is more than evident, reflecting the dedication of its creators to offering a stay that combines comfort, style, and an immersive cultural experience.
A design that respects history
The design of Borneta has been developed in collaboration with the Barcelona-based studio Heres Arquitectura, who have worked to preserve the building’s original elements, such as wooden beams and stone walls, while incorporating a modern and welcoming aesthetic.
Each of the 92 rooms and suites has been individually designed, yet all share the same warm minimalism, creating a space to unwind after a day exploring the bustling streets of El Born.
As you can see in the images, the design draws inspiration from the rich color palette of the city and incorporates materials like linen and wood, which perfectly complement works by local artists and furniture pieces that pay tribute to Barcelona’s artisanal history.
Volta: the heart and soul of Borneta
Volta isn’t just the hotel’s restaurant; it’s the heart and soul of Borneta. Its culinary concept focuses on fresh, seasonal ingredients and reinvented traditional recipes, providing a genuinely local experience in a sophisticated, relaxed setting.
The menu is divided into four sections: “Starting the Route”, “Raw”, “Km0” and “Sea and Land”. Signature dishes include Fine Claire n.2 oysters in tempura with citrus vinaigrette gel; organic egg with potato foam, parmesan, Jerusalem artichoke, and truffle; seabass tartare with cucumber, avocado, capers, and beetroot; ossobuco; Volta baba ganoush with zucchini, confit tomato, and ricotta salata; tomato and nectarine salad with halloumi, hazelnuts, and honey-mustard vinaigrette; or culurgiones with pecorino, potato, mint, and truffle.
Its expansive terrace, nestled under the iconic arches of Porxos de Fontseré, is ideal for enjoying chef Andrea de Benedictis’ creations. Each dish is inspired by the intense flavors of Spain, Italy, France, and North Africa, crafted with the finest local ingredients from small organic producers.
Next to the restaurant is Volta Bar, a skylit space perfect for enjoying a drink. Cocktail lovers will be thrilled with the menu’s creative combinations.
A space for cultural and artistic connection
The hotel also aims to connect with the neighborhood’s culture, organizing activities and events ranging from art and design exhibitions to intimate concerts by local musicians.
These initiatives have turned Borneta into a gathering place for both locals and visitors, establishing its identity as a space where the line between local and global blurs.

Notable pieces include works by artists like Alicia Gimeno, Chidy Wayne, Ramón Casas, Perico Pastor, Carmen Posta, Daniel Pagans, and Miriam Demà.

The hotel’s terrace, featuring a small pool perfect for cooling off on hot days, has become a favorite spot for both guests and neighbors. Here, visitors can enjoy unparalleled views over the rooftops of El Born and Barcelona’s iconic Parc de la Ciutadella, along with a cocktail and tapas menu inspired by Mediterranean flavors.
Other key spaces include The Gallery, a comfortable lounge where guests can relax during check-in; The Library, curated by Casa Fahrenheit, offering a carefully selected collection of novels on the past and present of El Born; a Fitness Center with state-of-the-art equipment for exercise during one’s stay.
Finally, there’s the Refresh Room, a Miiro signature space accessible before check-in and after check-out. It’s perfect for freshening up if your room isn’t ready, securely storing your luggage, or preparing for a long flight. This space is equipped with changing rooms, showers, Le Labo amenities, which are also available in all rooms, and charging points.
