Villa Copenhagen: A sustainable luxury oasis
In a city known for its minimalist design, tranquil canals and streets, and vibrant cultural scene, Villa Copenhagen emerges as a luxury retreat that captures the essence of the Danish capital, blending history, modernity, and sustainability in one place. With a prime location just steps from the central station and major tourist attractions, this five-star hotel is not only a place to stay but an experience in itself.
Address: Tietgensgade 35-39, Copenhagen

A building full of history
Villa Copenhagen occupies a majestic building that originally housed the former Copenhagen Post Office.
Inaugurated in 1912, this iconic property has been meticulously restored, preserving its rich architectural heritage in the Neobaroque style, situated at the intersection of Bernstorffsgade and Tietgensgade, while incorporating modern design elements that position it as one of the city’s most exclusive establishments.
Designed by the renowned Danish firm Lundgaard & Tranberg Architects, the hotel strikes the perfect balance between the classic and the contemporary, with its tall columns, ornate ceilings, and a carefully selected range of materials that highlight the Nordic aesthetic.

A meeting point for locals and tourists
Villa Copenhagen opens its doors to the capital as a meeting point for both visitors from outside Copenhagen and local residents who frequent its spaces to gather, work, host events, dine, and more.
Its aim is to stimulate and connect people, as well as contribute to the city and the neighborhood, all while offering guests an experience closely linked to the local community.

Design and comfort: a space for the senses
One of the first things that stands out upon entering Villa Copenhagen is its intimate and relaxed atmosphere. The lobby is dominated by its magnificent glass ceiling, which floods the space with light, and by the sculptures of Jaume Plensa, creating a sense of openness and calm.
The carefully selected furnishings are a mix of vintage and modern pieces, perfectly complementing the architectural details of the building. The use of organic materials such as wood, copper, linen, and marble adds an additional layer of understated luxury without being ostentatious.

As for the rooms, some offer stunning views of Tivoli Gardens and Rådhuspladsen (City Hall Square), and the interior design is a perfect blend of comfort and elegance. The rooms feature King-size beds, high-quality bedding, and marble bathrooms with eco-friendly and premium amenities from the Danish B Corp-certified brand SKANDINAVISK, which also smells incredibly good. These products can also be purchased in their design store Passagen.

The suites, in particular, offer spacious living areas, bathrooms with Jacuzzis, and exclusive services. For example, the Residential Suite was designed by ferm LIVING, and the Shamballa Suites were created by the founders of the Danish luxury brand Shamballa Jewels, Mads Kornerup and Mikkel Kornerup, along with their in-house designer Olga Krukovskaya.
Nevertheless, all rooms, regardless of their category, are very comfortable, and their beds are extremely cozy.

The impressive two-story Universal Penthouse Suite features a grand spiral staircase made of walnut, steel, and plaster that connects a double-height living room to the master bedroom on the upper floor.
Meanwhile, the Earth Suite, designed by Danish architect Eva Harlou, has been transformed into a space dedicated to showcasing new, sustainable design, with all elements in the suite being environmentally conscious.
Sustainability at the heart of the experience
One of the most notable aspects of Villa Copenhagen is its strong commitment to sustainability. This luxury hotel has been designed to be carbon neutral, meaning it offsets all of its CO2 emissions through reforestation projects and renewable energy sources.
In addition, it employs advanced eco-friendly technologies, such as water and energy recycling systems, energy-efficient LED lighting, and organic products in all of its services. The hotel also promotes the use of refillable bottles to reduce single-use plastic, and even the staff uniforms are from Sur le Chemin, a contemporary and sustainable fashion brand that creates garments using high-quality, sustainable fabrics such as organic cotton, wool, and Tencel.

Another remarkable feature is the chairs in the hotel’s conference rooms, designed by the pioneering Danish sustainable furniture company Mater. They have produced 800 chairs made from discarded plastic waste from the sea. The shell of these chairs is made up of 96% recycled fishing nets, which are a major environmental issue for marine life.
Sustainability is also reflected in its culinary offerings:
T37 Sharing Bar
When the former Central Post Office still stood, postal workers would gather here, surrounded by letters and packages. Today, T37 has been transformed into a bar where guests can share delicious dishes and create memorable evenings.

As mentioned, Villa Copenhagen’s firm commitment to sustainability and innovation is also reflected in this dining space, which adopts a responsible approach to minimizing its environmental footprint while supporting the local community.
Brasserie Kontrast
Brasserie Kontrast is the hotel’s main restaurant. The dining experience here blends the unique and urban essence of Vesterbro with the luxury and exclusivity that define central Copenhagen.

Its menu specializes in dishes inspired by Nordic cuisine, using local and seasonal ingredients.

Rug Bakery
This charming and cozy bakery, whose name in Danish means “Rye”, celebrates the rich traditions of Danish baking with a contemporary twist. At the helm is former Noma chef Gonzalo Guarda.

Its exquisite sourdough bread, irresistible pastries, breakfast and lunch dishes, and rich specialty coffee are a great draw for both locals and hotel guests.
An urban oasis: the spa and pool
The crown jewel of this hotel is its 25-meter pool. The spectacular views of the Copenhagen skyline, including the iconic City Hall Tower and Tivoli Gardens, are breathtaking.
Next to the pool, there’s a sauna, a state-of-the-art gym, and a spa offering a range of wellness treatments, including massages, facials, and relaxation therapies.

The best part is that it can be enjoyed year-round, as it is sustainably heated using excess heat from the hotel’s cooling systems. The pool temperature can range between 28 and 30°C, providing a very pleasant experience. While outside temperatures can hover around freezing, the water inside is comfortably warm, making it a relaxing escape.

Perfect location
The location of Villa Copenhagen is undoubtedly one of its greatest strengths. The hotel is very well connected to the airport, with a quick 20-minute journey getting you there.
It is also just a few minutes’ walk from the beautiful Tivoli Gardens—though very touristy, it’s definitely worth a visit, especially in winter (preferably on a weekday). The hotel is also close to the Meatpacking District, home to interesting contemporary art galleries like V1 Gallery, excellent restaurants such as Paté Paté, Hija de Sánchez, and Fleisch, bakeries and coffee shops like Hart Bageri and Prolog Coffee, and bars like H15 or ÅBEN Brewery.

As for museums, Villa Copenhagen is very near the Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek and the Danish Architecture Center. If you’re in the mood for shopping, the famous Strøget shopping street is nearby, although we personally prefer the shops in Vesterbro or Frederiksberg.

Additionally, being so close to the Central Train Station, which connects Copenhagen with other Danish and European cities, makes it easy to explore beyond the city comfortably and save time.

Villa Copenhagen: more than a hotel
In summary, Villa Copenhagen is not just a place to stay, but an experience that combines luxury, design, comfort, and environmental responsibility in an elegantly restored iconic building where history and contemporary design merge.
With its thoughtful approach to sustainability, incredible rooftop pool, exquisite design, and unbeatable location, this hotel has become a destination in itself—a perfect reflection of the city that hosts it.
“Villa Copenhagen is an invitation to embrace the Danish lifestyle.”
