\u201cHidden Order\u201d: a visual gift to the city<\/h6>\n

On 31 January and 1 February 2026, Casa Batll\u00f3<\/em>\u2019s fa\u00e7ade came to life once again with a monumental mapping piece that, for the fifth consecutive year, transformed the building into a stage of light, sound and emotion. Conceived as a large-scale audiovisual performance, “Hidden Order” <\/em>was a free public spectacle \u2014 and if you missed it, you can still enjoy it here<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Inspired by the official theme of Gaud\u00ed Year 2026<\/em>, “L\u2019ordre invisible<\/em>“, the piece explored the tension between order and chaos, revealing the hidden structures that shape the natural world. Clark<\/em>, a multidisciplinary artist, used motion capture technology to integrate the movements of choreographer Fukiko Takase<\/em> directly onto the fa\u00e7ade, creating a digital choreography that interacted with Gaud\u00ed<\/em>\u2019s architecture.<\/p>\n

The experience was enriched by an original score by composer Daniel J. Thibaut<\/em>, guiding the visual journey with soundscapes inspired by geometry and sensory perception. As a result, “Hidden Order”<\/em> was not just a projection \u2014 it became a performative work in which body, sound and building merged into a unified artistic gesture.<\/p>\n

\u201cBeyond the Fa\u00e7ade\u201d: when the exhibition moves indoors<\/h6>\n

But this year, there was more. For the first time, the mapping extended inside the building, giving rise to “Beyond the Fa\u00e7ade”<\/em>, the inaugural exhibition of Casa Batll\u00f3<\/em>\u2019s new contemporary art space, located on the second floor of the monument.<\/p>\n

Also created by United Visual Artists<\/em>, the exhibition offers a sensory journey from natural light to darkness, articulated through luminous installations, kinetic sculptures and interactive projections. Visitors cease to be passive observers and become active participants in the experience. The project draws a poetic connection between Gaud\u00ed<\/em> and Ramon Llull<\/em>, the 13th-century Mallorcan philosopher and mystic whose algorithmic and symbolic thinking would inspire generations to come. As Matt Clark<\/em> explains, “Beyond the Fa\u00e7ade”<\/em> functions as a “slower and more contemplative counterpoint”<\/em>\u00a0to the spectacle outside \u2014 an invitation to pause, observe and engage.<\/p>\n

A total artistic experience: body, light and technology<\/h6>\n

The fusion of art, architecture and technology proposed by Casa Batll\u00f3 Contemporary<\/em> is both radical and organic.<\/p>\n

Takase<\/em>, during the creative process, danced inside the building and treated the architecture not as a backdrop but as a “choreographic companion”<\/em>. That connection is then projected onto the fa\u00e7ade and amplified within the interior.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Thibaut<\/em>\u2019s music is composed with the space in mind: how light suggests rhythm, how volumes define harmonies, and how an architectural path can become a visual score.<\/p>\n

His collaboration with UVA<\/em> is the result of ongoing interdisciplinary dialogue \u2014 and this is evident in every detail of the experience.<\/p>\n

Digital art as the new gaudinian language<\/h6>\n

Casa Batll\u00f3 Contemporary<\/em> does not aim to pay nostalgic tribute to Gaud\u00ed<\/em>, but to project his legacy into the future. In line with this vision, it has already commissioned works by artists such as Refik Anadol<\/em>, Sofia Crespo<\/em> and Quayola<\/em> \u2014 all pioneers in digital art and algorithmic visualisation.<\/p>\n

This new phase also includes the launch of a publication curated by Francesca Gavin<\/em> and designed by Pony Studio<\/em>, exploring how digital practices are reimagining Gaud\u00ed<\/em>\u2019s universe from a contemporary perspective.<\/p>\n

A celebration that goes beyond art<\/h6>\n

This new chapter opens at a key moment: the centenary of Antoni Gaud\u00ed<\/em>\u2019s death, the official designation of 2026 as Gaud\u00ed Year<\/em> by the Spanish Government and the Generalitat de Catalunya, and Barcelona being named World Capital of Architecture<\/em>.<\/p>\n

A powerful context for positioning the city and Casa Batll\u00f3<\/em> as epicentres of global artistic innovation.<\/p>\n

With “Hidden Order”<\/em> and “Beyond the Fa\u00e7ade”<\/em>, Casa Batll\u00f3<\/em> is not only opening a new artistic venue \u2014 it is redefining how we engage with architecture, creativity and immersive storytelling.
