Under the theme \u201cRedesigning the World\u201d<\/em>, MDF26<\/em> unfolds a multidimensional programme that addresses contemporary challenges through creativity, sustainability, innovation, and cross-disciplinary collaboration \u2014 stronger than ever before, and reaffirming the transformative power of design in our lives.<\/p>\n

A festival pulsing through the entire city<\/h6>\n

With over 300 venues involved and 162 scheduled activities, Madrid becomes a vast ideas laboratory. Exhibitions, installations, fairs, talks, tours, open studios, and workshops take over neighbourhoods, museums, galleries, schools, and public spaces \u2014 creating a dynamic ecosystem of design, culture, economy, and education. This year, the Chamber\u00ed district joins as a new creative hub.<\/p>\n

\u201cDesign is more than just an identity of Madrid. It\u2019s part of its very nature.\u201d \u00c1lvaro Mat\u00edas<\/h2>\n

FORMA: a turning point for spanish design<\/h6>\n

The major milestone of this edition is the launch of FORMA Design Fair<\/em>, Spain\u2019s first national fair dedicated to collectible design. Taking place from 4\u20138 March at Matadero Madrid, the event will bring together studios, galleries, publishers, brands, and craftspeople redefining the boundaries of contemporary design.<\/p>\n

Curated by Antonio Luna<\/em> and Emerio Arena<\/em>, FORMA<\/em> offers a journey through unique pieces and limited editions blending artistic expression and functionality. Its professional programme, PER-FORMA<\/em>, will host meetings, training sessions, and live demos aimed at strengthening collaboration across the design sector.<\/p>\n

Three landmark exhibitions<\/h6>\n

The festival\u2019s exhibition core will be hosted at Teatro Fern\u00e1n G\u00f3mez \u2014 Centro Cultural de la Villa, with three major shows:<\/p>\n

Andr\u00e9 Ricard. Design in Use<\/strong>: a retrospective dedicated to the master of Spanish industrial design, winner of the 2025 MDF Award<\/em>. Curated by Marina Povedano<\/em> and Arnau Pascual<\/em>, the show spans six decades of work with iconic pieces like the Tatu<\/em> lamp and the Barcelona \u201992 Olympic torch.<\/p>\n

Mediterranean Manifesto<\/strong>: a collective reflection on artisanal design, cultural memory and Mediterranean sustainability. Over 30 creators \u2014 including Canoa Lab<\/em>, Lucas Mu\u00f1oz<\/em>, Francesca Pi\u00f1ol<\/em>, Worn Studio<\/em>, and Xavier Ma\u00f1osa<\/em> \u2014 contribute to an immersive experience combining sand, translucent curtains, and natural materials.<\/p>\n

Guatemala, Guest Country<\/strong>: Textile Art and Guatemala: Design and Identity<\/em>, conceived by Idonika and curated by Emiliano Vald\u00e9s<\/em>, turns the exhibition space into a sensory landscape of suspended fabrics, voices, and images honouring Mayan heritage and Guatemalan weaving traditions.<\/p>\n

Madrid Design PRO: Facing 21st-century challenges<\/h6>\n

Patricia Urquiola<\/em>, Studio Dumbar<\/em>, Manuel Maqueda<\/em>, Luca Nichetto<\/em>, Emma van der Leest<\/em>, Christien Meindertsma<\/em>, Studio Mesura<\/em>, and Petra Janssen<\/em> are just a few of the names featured in Madrid Design PRO<\/em>, the festival\u2019s professional and thought-leadership platform. Topics will include AI, traceability, biodesign, mobility, and the social impact of design.<\/p>\n

Fiesta Design: a festival within the festival<\/h6>\n

From 12 to 22 February, Fiesta Design<\/em> will take over the Instituci\u00f3n Libre de Ense\u00f1anza with installations, workshops, and participatory events.<\/p>\n

“Generational Change”<\/strong>, by Amazon<\/em> and Kavita Parmar<\/em>. A sound installation by Signus<\/em> and Gianluca Pugliese<\/em>.<\/p>\n

“Forest Baths”<\/strong>, a sensory pop-up garden by Finsa<\/em>, Enorme Studio<\/em> and Alex Fenollar<\/em>.<\/p>\n

“We Need to Talk”<\/strong> by Clinica Studio<\/em> \u2014 a kinetic panel-based interactive experience exploring new modes of visual communication.<\/p>\n

Backboardless reinterpretation<\/strong> by V\u00edctor Garc\u00eda (Playincolors)<\/em>, blending sculpture, sport, and materiality.<\/p>\n

Guatemala returns with a new installation celebrating craft as a symbol of identity and future, while Castilla\u2013La Mancha honours tin craftsmanship through the Materia Expandida<\/em> project, curated by Tom\u00e1s Al\u00eda<\/em>.<\/p>\n

The strategic and economic dimensions of design are addressed through Dise\u00f1oesfera<\/em>, driven by the Community of Madrid. Key initiatives include:<\/p>\n

For the second consecutive year, Madrid Design Festival<\/em> places wool at the heart of its programme \u2014 recognising it as a key material for rethinking the link between design, sustainability, and territory.<\/p>\n

Through the Wool Alliance<\/em> initiative, the festival features installations, talks, research projects, and exhibits that highlight wool as a living symbol of heritage, circular economy, and material innovation. This edition explores how wool shapes contemporary narratives about memory, landscape, education, and the future.<\/p>\n

Nike. Design in Motion<\/h6>\n

La F\u00e1brica presents “Nike. Design in Motion”<\/em> at TeamLabs (Plaza de San Mart\u00edn, 1) \u2014 the most ambitious exhibition ever dedicated to the brand. Featuring 363 iconic pieces, the show traces decades of design, innovation, and cultural impact \u2014 including original Air Jordan<\/em> prototypes, data devices, and personal items from athletes like Rafa Nadal <\/em>and Pau Gasol<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Madrid Dise\u00f1a: the city as creative lab<\/h6>\n

Madrid Dise\u00f1a<\/em> is the festival\u2019s living map \u2014 connecting nearly 300 venues across the city through exhibitions, workshops, open studios, routes, and talks, transforming the capital into a platform for creation and cultural economy.<\/p>\n

This year, Chamber\u00ed joins as the new design district, after the success of Carabanchel, Tetu\u00e1n and Prosperidad in previous editions.<\/p>\n

Innovative additions include:<\/p>\n

The opening of Infinito Delicias<\/em>, a new civic art and sustainable food centre.<\/p>\n

The Madrid Design Awards 2026<\/em> will honour industry legends such as Rosanna Orlandi<\/em>, Konstantin Grcic<\/em>, and Juli Capella<\/em>. Meanwhile, MINI<\/em> will present the 6th MINI Design Prize<\/em>, and La F\u00e1brica will launch the “Nike. Design in Motion<\/em>” <\/em>show as part of the awards programme.<\/p>\n
