From 14 to 20 May 2026, New York City will once again become the world capital of design, as the NYCxDESIGN Festival<\/strong><\/a> unveils its annual programme filled with public installations, exhibitions, talks, tours and collaborations that transcend disciplines, generations and borders.<\/p>\n

This year, under the theme Design Connects Us<\/em>, the festival goes beyond showcasing beautifully designed objects or spaces. It aspires to create meaningful connections \u2014 between people, ideas and communities; between technology, art and sustainability; between the present and a shared future. The organising team\u2019s vision is clear: to put design at the service of life, not the other way around.<\/p>\n

A moment of change and purpose<\/h6>\n

We are living in a time when cities, their dynamics and their challenges demand a new creative language. The climate crisis, growing inequalities, the impact of technology and the urgency of community are reshaping what we understand by relevant design<\/em>.<\/p>\n

In this context, NYCxDESIGN Festival 2026<\/em> arrives with a renewed energy: more collaborative, more inclusive, more global. \u201cDesign that connects us\u201d<\/em>, as the organisers put it, becomes not just a celebration, but a call to commitment.<\/p>\n

We emerge at a time of challenge with a strong sense of purpose and optimism. What makes this edition stand out is the spirit of collaboration across all the boroughs \u2014 from emerging talents to global icons \u2014 all celebrating how design shapes our shared future. And we have received very meaningful outreach from our international partners.<\/p>\n

In what ways does the 2026 vision for NYCxDESIGN reflect current conversations in design, sustainability, and community engagement?<\/strong><\/p>\n

For 2026, our vision for NYCxDESIGN<\/em> is deeply rooted in connection \u2014 between disciplines, communities, and ideas. Design today goes beyond objects and spaces; it\u2019s about how we live, how we care for one another, and how we shape a more sustainable, healthy and inclusive world.<\/p>\n

The conversations happening across the design community \u2014 around environmental responsibility, social impact, and the power of creativity to unite \u2014 are exactly what this next Festival will reflect.\u00a0 \u00a0We’ll explore the AI, science, and art through a design lens.<\/p>\n

How do you see the role of NYCxDESIGN evolving in the coming years, especially with New York\u2019s creative industries in constant transformation?<\/strong><\/p>\n

I see NYCxDESIGN<\/em> continuing to grow as both a mirror and a catalyst for New York\u2019s ever-evolving creative spirit. This city never stands still \u2014 and neither should we. As design, technology, and culture continue to intertwine, our role is to stay open, curious, and connected to the pulse of what\u2019s next.<\/p>\n

In the coming years, NYCxDESIGN<\/em> will expand its reach \u2014 strengthening partnerships across industries and countries, supporting the next generation of talent, and amplifying the voices of those who are reshaping our built environment and our shared future.<\/p>\n

Ultimately, we\u2019ll continue to be a platform that celebrates creativity while also asking important questions plaguing our times\u00a0 \u2014 about sustainability, health, technology and the role design plays in improving everyday life. Our goal is to ensure that New York remains not just a capital of design, but a city that leads with vision, and humanity.<\/p>\n

What\u2019s your personal highlight \u2014 the one moment, installation, or collaboration you\u2019re most excited about this new edition?<\/strong><\/p>\n

That\u2019s a hard one \u2014 there are so many moments I\u2019m excited about! But if I had to choose, it\u2019s the sense of togetherness that the 2026 Festival will bring. The collaborations forming across disciplines \u2014 architects, artists, makers, engineers, students, and brands \u2014 all coming together with a shared purpose, feel especially powerful this year.\u00a0 We are all yearning to connect and support one another.<\/p>\n

I\u2019m particularly looking forward to the new public installations and conversations that invite everyone \u2014 New Yorkers and visitors alike \u2014 to experience design in unexpected ways. There\u2019s a joy and an energy that comes from seeing people connect through innovation, and that\u2019s what I\u2019m most excited to witness.<\/p>\n

One of our key editorial focuses will be to follow the most significant installations, cross-disciplinary collaborations, and encounters where innovation becomes a bridge across generations.
