Throughout his career, he has expanded the limits of visual language, turning it into a tool for observation, reflection, and activism. However, this exhibition at the Centre Pompidou marks a turning point: it is his first institutional solo show in Paris since his landmark installation at <em>Palais de Tokyo<\/em> in 2002.<\/p>\n<h6 data-start=\"1773\" data-end=\"1832\">A site-specific installation in dialogue with its space<\/h6>\n<p data-start=\"1834\" data-end=\"2096\">More than an exhibition, <em data-start=\"1859\" data-end=\"1929\">&#8220;Nothing could have prepared us \u2013 Everything could have prepared us&#8221;<\/em> is a full-scale artistic intervention. Instead, the artist creates a hybrid visual landscape that uses the verticality of the walls, the horizontality of tables, and the natural circulation of a library to provoke unexpected encounters between artwork and viewer.<\/p>\n<h2 data-start=\"2098\" data-end=\"2411\">\u201cTillmans questions the workings of the media, identities, social structures and contemporary ways of life.\u201d<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"2525\" data-end=\"2742\">The show includes not only photography, but also video, sound, music, and text\u2014in a staging that erases disciplinary boundaries and draws on the architecture of the space to champion knowledge as a sensory experience.<\/p>\n<h6 data-start=\"2744\" data-end=\"2819\">Between the intimate and the political: the archive as living territory<\/h6>\n<p data-start=\"2821\" data-end=\"3002\">The exhibition spans nearly 40 years of artistic creation, from<em> Tillmans<\/em>\u2019 early days in the 1990s\u2014shaped by queer youth and counterculture aesthetics\u2014to his most recent productions.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3004\" data-end=\"3145\">As you\u2019ll see, large-scale photographs coexist with homemade prints, unframed sheets, posters, cut-outs, found objects and archival material.<\/p>\n<h2 data-start=\"3004\" data-end=\"3145\">\u201cPhotography, for me, is as much about what is invisible as it is about what is visible.\u201d W. Tillmans<\/h2>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-89614 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/ccmagazine.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/WT@Jens-Ziehe-_8.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1124\" height=\"1500\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ccmagazine.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/WT@Jens-Ziehe-_8.jpg 1124w, https:\/\/ccmagazine.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/WT@Jens-Ziehe-_8-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/ccmagazine.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/WT@Jens-Ziehe-_8-318x425.jpg 318w, https:\/\/ccmagazine.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/WT@Jens-Ziehe-_8-768x1025.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1124px) 100vw, 1124px\" \/><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3254\" data-end=\"3522\">This living visual archive offers a complex portrait of the contemporary world.<em> Tillmans<\/em> speaks of fragility, desire, community, climate urgency, political crisis, freedom and memory\u2014always through a humanist lens that invites us to observe with empathy and attention.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3524\" data-end=\"3783\">The exhibition also explores the evolution of visual culture from 1989 to the present, addressing issues such as new forms of information dissemination, the transformation of the public sphere, and how communities reshape themselves in a hyperconnected world.<\/p>\n<h6 data-start=\"3785\" data-end=\"3827\">An aesthetic manifesto for the present<\/h6>\n<p data-start=\"3829\" data-end=\"4129\"><em>Tillmans<\/em> does not seek to impose a single reading of his work. Rather, his images open questions, stir intuitions, and allow for multiple interpretations.
