A legacy transformed into a refuge<\/h6>\n

There are places that are not built, but inherited. And C\u00e9sar Lanzarote<\/em> is one of them.<\/p>\n

Located in the former family home of Gumersindo Manrique<\/em>, father of the renowned artist C\u00e9sar Manrique<\/em>, this boutique hotel is born with a unique symbolic weight: not merely as a physical space, but as a living memory of a deeply authentic Lanzarote.<\/p>\n

The building’s restoration has been overseen by local engineer Alexis Betancor<\/em>, while the interior design project was led by Virginia Nieto<\/em><\/a>, who deliberately strayed from the rhetoric of grand design hotels to embrace an honest, sensitive aesthetic \u2014 one that is deeply connected to its surroundings.<\/p>\n

In collaboration with Heaps & Woods<\/em><\/a>, Nieto<\/em> has created a warm and contemporary atmosphere using natural materials and details that pay tribute to the island\u2019s landscape: hand-sculpted wood, natural fibres, earthy tones and a palette of deep greens evoking vineyards, moss, pine and volcanic rock.<\/p>\n

Of particular note are the Boni<\/em> chairs, exclusively designed for C\u00e9sar Lanzarot<\/em>e in a bold green inspired by the hues of the island. These pieces \u2014 featured in the restaurant, terraces and communal areas \u2014 reinforce the fluid connection between interior and exterior, between design and natural environment.<\/p>\n

Nieto<\/em> has also recovered original architectural features such as staircases, wooden ceilings and the central courtyard, which were restored in collaboration with local artisans and carpenters. The result is a balance between the vernacular and the sophisticated, the domestic and the contemporary.<\/p>\n

Beyond the design, there is a clear intent to turn this place into a living space where respect for the past and the beauty of the present exist in harmony. Still, the emotional connection with the guest could be deepened further so that its aesthetics are also translated into experience.<\/p>\n

Rooms with views into the soul of the island<\/h6>\n

With just 20 rooms, the accommodation at C\u00e9sar Lanzarote<\/em> is undoubtedly one of its greatest achievements. Each room is conceived as an intimate, quiet refuge, where luxury is measured not by excess but by thoughtfulness and harmony.<\/p>\n

Some rooms overlook the vineyards of La Geria, while others face the volcanic silhouettes or the ocean horizon. The Master Suite, with its generous space and private terrace, offers one of the finest vantage points for watching Lanzarote\u2019s sunsets.<\/p>\n

The interiors blend custom-made furniture, natural textiles, handcrafted ceramics and restored pieces, creating a clean, refined aesthetic that places authenticity at its core.<\/p>\n

Staying at C\u00e9sar Lanzarote<\/em> means inhabiting a place that, without grand gestures, lets the landscape and materials speak for themselves.<\/p>\n

Gastronomy with local roots<\/h6>\n

C\u00e9sar Lanzarote<\/em> is committed to a robust, ambitious culinary offering deeply rooted in the local landscape, presented through three distinct spaces: the Restaurante C\u00e9sar<\/em>, the Sunset Bar<\/em>, and the newly opened La Tasquita de Lanzarote<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Restaurante C\u00e9sar<\/strong>, under the direction of chef Alejandro Mart\u00edn<\/em> and with consultancy from the acclaimed Juanjo L\u00f3pez Bedmar <\/em>(La Tasquita de Enfrente<\/em>, Madrid), presents signature cuisine that reinterprets traditional Canarian flavours with a contemporary lens. Dishes such as rabbit in salmorejo<\/em>, gofio escaldado<\/em> and papas arrugadas with mojo <\/em>are revisited with skill, sensitivity, and respect for local ingredients.<\/p>\n

The newest addition is La Tasquita de Lanzarote<\/strong>, an intimate dining space with two tastefully understated salons, designed for a maximum of 10 diners. Inspired by the Japanese kaiseki <\/em>philosophy, the menu focuses on the harmony of flavour, texture and presentation.<\/p>\n

At the helm is young chef Eva P\u00e9rez<\/em>, who brings L\u00f3pez Bedmar<\/em>\u2019s vision to life with precision, showcasing seasonal produce without shying away from noble ingredients like caviar or smoked salmon.<\/p>\n

The tasting menus offer a meaningful sequence of creations: from a surprising roasted Canarian banana with salchich\u00f3n tartare, to a delicate inverted hake salad, an exquisite brioche with Iberian pork jowl and caviar, or a memorable smoked salmon neck.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s a clear commitment to elevating the island\u2019s cuisine with identity, technique, and emotion.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the Sunset Bar <\/strong>invites guests to enjoy cocktails and local wines \u2014 including the hotel\u2019s own Malvas\u00eda wine, grown on its own vineyards \u2014 in an enveloping setting, perfect for watching the sun dip below the volcanic landscape.<\/p>\n

Although we didn\u2019t have the chance to sample all its offerings during our stay, the hotel\u2019s gastronomic philosophy clearly champions local sourcing, seasonality, and a natural marriage of environment, aesthetics, and taste.<\/p>\n

Spaces for rest and contemplation<\/h6>\n

The hotel features an organic-shaped pool, beautifully integrated into the landscape and surrounded by volcanic stone, cacti and protective walls that shield from the wind without obstructing the view.<\/p>\n

Yet the place that captivated us most was the central courtyard, distinguished by its intense green colour, stately columns and lush vegetation.<\/p>\n

Situated near the reception, adjacent to La Tasquita de Lanzarote<\/em> and the corridor leading to the restaurant and pool, this interior patio is one of the hotel\u2019s most magical corners. It is presided over by a sculptural central lamp, surrounded by columns rising towards a skylight of green and yellow glass, through which light filters to create a mosaic of shadows and reflections. A space of passage that, without intending to, becomes a place to pause. To observe. To breathe.<\/p>\n

In addition to its wellness area \u2014 which offers massages in cisterns \u2014 and an open-air gym, the hotel proposes experiences such as yoga classes, horse riding or sustainable tours to explore La Geria.<\/p>\n

Flawless aesthetics in a privileged setting<\/h6>\n

C\u00e9sar Lanzarote<\/em> represents a new way of inhabiting the island: slower, more sensorial, more attuned to the landscape and conscious design. It is a place that reinterprets the spirit of Lanzarote with a contemporary lens, where aesthetic care and architecture take centre stage.<\/p>\n

While there are aspects of the experience that could be refined to fully match its stunning presentation, the project delivers a singular, compelling proposition in one of Lanzarote\u2019s most special enclaves.<\/p>\n
