Since the early 20th century, the charming village of Dei\u00e0 has attracted artists, writers and filmmakers in search of inspiration drawn from its luminous atmosphere, creative solitude and deep connection to nature. At the heart of this cultural enclave stands La Residencia<\/em>\u00a0\u2014 a hotel that offers more than luxury: it is a living homage to art, history and the refined sensibility of this corner of the Tramuntana mountains.<\/p>\n

Much of this legacy is owed to the artistic vision and devotion of an unforgettable couple: George<\/em> and Cecilie Sheridan<\/em>.<\/p>\n

George Sheridan<\/em> (1923\u20132008), a British painter, was a central figure in Dei\u00e0’s artistic movement. Influenced by Matisse<\/em> and Braque<\/em>, his work is characterised by expressive use of colour and a vibrant energy closely tied to the Mallorcan landscape.<\/p>\n

Sheridan<\/em> exhibited internationally \u2014 in London, Paris, Stockholm and New York \u2014 but it was in Dei\u00e0 that he found his true creative home. For decades, he not only produced a unique and passionate body of work, but also served as a mentor and driving force behind the thriving local art community.<\/p>\n

Alongside him, Cecilie Sheridan<\/em> has played a pivotal role as an artist, writer, curator and art historian. Since the 1980s, she has been the key force behind the cultural identity of La Residencia<\/em>, nurturing and curating an outstanding contemporary art collection that now includes over 800 works by more than 85 artists, many of them deeply rooted in Dei\u00e0\u2019s artistic spirit.<\/p>\n

After many years passionately dedicated to the soul of the hotel, Cecilie<\/em> now shares curatorial duties with her daughter, Amy Sheridan<\/em>, remaining a guiding and essential figure in the project. Her experience, sensitivity and insight are vital to preserving the authentic, vibrant spirit that has transformed La Residencia<\/em> into a true sanctuary of art on the island.<\/p>\n

The collection also includes works by major names such as Joan Mir\u00f3<\/em> \u2014 with 33 original lithographs housed in the hotel \u2014 yet its essence lies in celebrating the creative richness of Dei\u00e0 and preserving its bohemian, authentic and free-spirited nature.<\/p>\n

During our stay, we had the great pleasure of meeting Cecilie<\/em> in person and sharing stories, laughter and heartfelt memories. Her energy is infectious, and her love for art, for George<\/em>, and for Dei\u00e0, continues to shine brightly in every word, every painting and every corner of this extraordinary place.<\/p>\n

The connection between La Residencia<\/em> and the arts is not only part of its past, but also a key part of its vibrant present. This year, and for the first time in collaboration with Artnet<\/em><\/a>, the hotel launches “Infinite Horizons”<\/em>, a new artist residency programme that reaffirms its role as a creative sanctuary in Dei\u00e0.<\/p>\n

Inspired by Mediterranean light, sublime sea views and the ancient energy of the Tramuntana range, three contemporary artists have been invited to explore their artistic practice through tactile materials such as ceramics, painting and sculpture \u2014 always in dialogue with Mallorca\u2019s rich artisan tradition.<\/p>\n

The first residency will feature Liang Fu<\/em> (May\u2013June 2025), followed by Lara Ord\u00f3\u00f1ez<\/em> (July\u2013August), and finally Berta De La Rosa <\/em>(September\u2013October). A creative journey that expands the horizons of art in one of the Mediterranean’s most inspiring destinations.<\/p>\n

Absolute comfort is a given, thanks to the exceptionally spacious, cocoon-like beds and the profound sense of peace that permeates the entire property \u2014 turning rest into a truly sensory experience.<\/p>\n

Beyond the rooms, the hotel offers a complete experience for the senses. In addition to its main pool with stunning views, there are several more secluded options \u2014 including an adults-only pool and a number of suites with private pools, perfect for basking in the sun in total privacy. Dei\u00e0 is one of the most beautiful and evocative villages on the island. That\u2019s why we wholeheartedly recommend getting lost \u2014 quite literally \u2014 in its cobbled streets, visiting the hilltop church and the small cemetery with its breathtaking views over the sea.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s also well worth pausing in the charming garden of Cas Peixot<\/em> for a drink in the sun, and strolling down the main street, home to some of the village\u2019s most interesting shops, caf\u00e9s and creative spaces, such as de moni\u00f6<\/em>, Datura Studio Isla<\/em>, or the Haan Gallery Studio<\/em>, among others.<\/p>\n

If you’re there on a Wednesday, don\u2019t miss the outdoor local market, where you’ll find stalls selling food, clothing, crafts and live music in a laid-back, community setting.<\/p>\n

Finally, one of the must-do walks during your stay is the one that leads to the stunning Cala Dei\u00e0<\/em>. There are several ways to get there: on the way down, we took a gentle path that skirts the village and leads into nature; on the way back, we climbed up via the mountains, where we were rewarded with spectacular views of the surrounding landscape.<\/p>\n

The cove itself, framed by rocks, lush greenery and crystal-clear waters, is especially magical outside high season \u2014 when peace and beauty reign.<\/p>\n

In short, and as you\u2019ll soon discover, a stay at La Residencia<\/em> is not just about rest \u2014 it\u2019s about reconnecting, finding inspiration, and celebrating life in good company.<\/p>\n
