In any case, after The Last Resort, I realised that the class least documented by photography in British society was the middle class. It was obviously less interesting than the poor and the rich. In his early years, his use of colour and the way he portrayed British life were seen as provocative, even offensive. His photographs, with their almost advertising-like aesthetic, seemed to trivialise working-class life. However, over time, it has become clear that what he was really doing was exposing its contradictions and prompting reflection on consumerism and identity.<\/p>\n Are we laughing with his images or at ourselves? That ambiguity is the key to his power. Through his lens, Parr<\/em> confronts us with a society that flirts with the absurd, the banal, and the magnificent all at once.<\/p>\n \u201cMy relationship with the UK is full of contradictions, I don\u2019t like the intolerance, the snobbery, the Brexit, but I love Radio 4 more than anything, the cups of tea… Half of my archives are about the UK, I always spend June, July and August photographing my country, it\u2019s like a real therapy for me.\u201d Martin Parr<\/em><\/p>\n “I Am Martin Parr”<\/em> is not just a tribute to his legacy but also an exploration of the man behind the camera.
