One of our favourite publishing houses is TASCHEN that celebrates its 40th<\/sup> anniversary this year. In fact, we have been collecting special editions of its art and photography books for some time. The best thing is that for barely two months now we have been lucky enough to enjoy its new premises in Madrid: the company\u2019s thirteenth of those it has all over the world, thus joining London, Paris, Berlin, Milan, Hong Kong, Tokyo or Miami.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

The chosen site is at Calle Barquillo, number 30 in the elegant neighbourhood of Las Salesas. A centennial shop with a lot of history, that housed the Santa Rita<\/em> haberdashery in its day, and where they have real treasures, both for collectors and book lovers or cultural enthusiasts.<\/p>\n

Here you can find anything from Leonardo<\/em>,\u00a0Rembrandt<\/em>,\u00a0Dal\u00ed<\/em>,\u00a0Ai Weiwei<\/em>,\u00a0David Hockney<\/em>,\u00a0Sebasti\u00e3o Salgado<\/em>,\u00a0David LaChapelle<\/em>,\u00a0Tadao Ando<\/em>,\u00a0Robert Crumb<\/em>,\u00a0Pedro Almod\u00f3var<\/em>, amongst many others, and the best thing is that there are increasingly more Spanish editions.<\/p>\n

The shop is divided into three parts. On crossing the threshold, we find ourselves in the main area, where you can find the complete TASCHEN<\/u> catalogue; in the rear, there is an art gallery where collector\u2019s editions are exhibited as well as well as artists\u2019 items with original pieces; the offices are just after that. A luxurious space where original furniture such as original shelves are combined with unique pieces of furniture chosen exclusively for this shop, pieces that are part of a private collection that belongs to its founder, Benedikt Taschen<\/em>, who at the age of only 18 started his own shop, of just 25 square metres, selling comics and rarities in Cologne, Germany having collected comics for several years. Of these pieces, the following stand out: the Superellipse <\/em>table by Bruno Mathsson & Piet Hein<\/em> that presides the entrance, illuminated by a \u00a0GUBI\u00a0chandelier with 16 Bonderub,\u00a0Claus and Torsten Thorup Fog & Morup<\/em>\u00a0lamps (Denmark, 1968), as well as a multicoloured blown glass chandelier with eight lamps designed by Gio Ponti (1946) that can be found in the art gallery on a small wooden table with two matching armchairs, originals from the Vend\u00f4me Bar at the Ritz in Paris.<\/p>\n

Jes\u00fas Martinelli manages this new book temple for the German publishing house that he told us was borne to become a cultural meeting point in Madrid. As such, there are different activities planned, as and when these can be carried out, as well as the shop\u2019s participation in other activities in the city. One step at a time.
