Casa do Conto\u00a0<\/span><\/b>was our home in Oporto for four days. A charming designer residence in a XIX century bourgeois house in the Cedofeita neighbourhood (a re-emerging area in the heart of the city centre) which has been spectacularly restored.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Its history is worthy of a tale, as this magnificent property remerged after a tragic fire in March 2009, to give birth to a very original and innovative Project which stands out because of its solemn vertical architecture characteristic of the XIX century Oporto style and due to the inscriptions on the\u00a0raw cement\u00a0of the stairs and the ceilings of its six exclusive rooms as if they were scars of its life. A kind of “fossil architecture” which works as a narrator and like a memory of the past and desire for the future. <\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

It\u2019s a collective proposal by architects\u00a0Pedra Liquida\u00a0<\/i>\u2013\u00a0awarded the\u00a02011 SEGD Design Awards,\u00a0<\/i>and the\u00a0Golden Award of European Design Awards,\u00a0<\/i>in the category\u00a0“Signs &\u00a0Displays<\/i>“-, which has been graphically devised by the creators at\u00a0R2 Design<\/i>, and whose messages have been written by authors who belong to the world of literature and architecture like\u00a0Filipa Leal<\/i>,\u00a0Alvaro Domingues<\/i>,\u00a0Jorge Figueira<\/i>,\u00a0Andr\u00e9 Tavares<\/i>,\u00a0Pedro Bandeira\u00a0<\/i>and\u00a0Nuno Grande<\/i>.<\/span><\/p>\n

As you can see from the photos,\u00a0<\/span>Casa do Conto<\/span><\/a><\/span><\/em>\u00a0is counting on an innovative hotel concept \u2013 arts & residence -, offering a personalized residence style directed at guests who are looking to live a complete experience for the senses as well as design.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

And, apart from combining design and Avant guarde materials with a fantastic fa\u00e7ade of its original era, it also offers an excellent service,\u00a0<\/span>six impressive rooms<\/span><\/a>, which are perfectly decorated and ideal for a\u00a0rest\/break, together with a breakfast of artesan and local produce, included in the price, which guests can choose to enjoy in the beautiful walled garden and\/or the courtyard.<\/span><\/p>\n

As if this weren\u2019t enough,\u00a0Casa do Conto\u00a0<\/em>has communal areas like the reception area, a living room, a library and the dining room which are on the ground floor and first floor and which are lit by a large central\u00a0skylight. \u00a0All these areas are equipped with designer pieces and furniture of the era, which you\u2019ll want to take home hahaha. And on its Rua de Boavisa number 703 door you can read “Foi 513”<\/em> (it used to be number 513), a painted tile invoques the overlap of various stories of the building, which is a\u00a0National Heritage Property<\/i>.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Additionally,\u00a0Casa do Conto\u00a0<\/em>also invoques a great variety of cultural\u00a0<\/b>events\u00a0like the release of books and showing of art exhibition in collaboration with different creators, curators; groups and the city\u2019s cultural institutions. This implies a “constant flow of events” throughout the year.<\/span><\/p>\n

All that is left to say is that I highly recommend this experience to be lived in person. It\u2019s definitely not a sponsored post or anything like it, just a sincere recommendation about a hotel that has inspired us.<\/span><\/p>\n

Interesing facts:<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

Casa do Conto<\/span><\/em>\u00a0is a mere 4 minute walk from the Carolina Michaelis underground station and is close to many places of interest and Oporto\u2019s most important monuments, like the old part of the city,\u00a0Miguel Bombarda<\/i>, full of galleries, shops and very interesting restaurants and which is the coolest street in the city. Also included are the Casa da M\u00fasica<\/i>, the\u00a0cathedral and the tower of the Clergies.<\/i><\/span><\/p>\n
