Between georgian and industrial<\/h6>\n

The hotel occupies a singular building that combines two structures of very different natures: a Georgian house and a former boot factory.<\/p>\n

Far from homogenising both spaces, the project embraces this duality as an essential part of its character. Original mouldings, generous ceiling heights and classical proportions coexist with industrial elements such as exposed brick, concrete floors and factory-style sliding doors.<\/p>\n

Rather than striving for aesthetic perfection, the space is constructed through a conscious tension between what is inherited and what is intervened. This decision, more conceptual than decorative, is what defines the experience of the place.<\/p>\n

Unique rooms<\/h6>\n

One of the hotel\u2019s most evident features is the absence of standardisation. The 23 rooms have been individually designed, avoiding any logic of repetition typical of traditional hospitality.<\/p>\n

The furniture combines reclaimed pieces, found objects and contemporary elements, creating spaces that don’t respond to a single style, but to an intentional accumulation of references.<\/p>\n

Art plays a central role. It does not appear as a decorative element, but as a structural part of the project: works by local artists coexist with pieces by established names, creating an eclectic collection that unfolds throughout the hotel.<\/p>\n

Among the different categories \u2014 from more compact rooms to larger options with living areas \u2014 there is a clear intention to offer different experiences depending on the type of stay, always under the same logic: no room feels interchangeable.<\/p>\n

We stayed in The Artist Suite<\/em>, probably the most special room in the hotel. A spacious and bright space, with high ceilings and floor-to-ceiling windows opening onto views of Portland Square<\/span><\/span><\/em>.<\/p>\n

The layout integrates a comfortable living area, a super king bed and an open bathroom where a freestanding bathtub and a rainfall shower set the tone of the space.<\/p>\n

Beyond its configuration, what defines the suite is the sense of balance between the domestic and the carefully designed.<\/p>\n

The experience was, quite simply, wonderful: a refuge within the city that allows you to slow down without losing connection to what is happening outside.<\/p>\n

As a counterpoint, The Lookout<\/em>, located under the roof and arranged over two levels, offers a more intimate experience, with a private terrace and views over Bristol\u2019s rooftops. Two different ways of understanding the same concept.<\/p>\n

Shared spaces<\/h6>\n

One of the most interesting aspects of Artist Residence Bristol<\/em> is its relationship with its immediate surroundings.<\/p>\n

On the ground floor and lower level is The Boot Factory<\/em>, a space that integrates bar, restaurant and caf\u00e9 within the building\u2019s original structure. The intervention preserves the industrial character, with exposed brick, concrete floors and visible structural elements.<\/p>\n

The double-height of the main bar introduces natural light and organises the space, while the different areas \u2014 lounges, garden terrace and event space \u2014 allow for fluid movement throughout the day.<\/p>\n

Gastronomy without artifice<\/h6>\n

The culinary offering is conceived from an accessible perspective, with Mediterranean influences and a focus on produce.<\/p>\n

During the week, the space operates mainly as a dinner venue, while at weekends the rhythm shifts: brunch takes centre stage during the day and dinners return in the evening.<\/p>\n

The bar, meanwhile, remains open daily, reinforcing the idea of a place you can visit at different times without necessarily staying overnight.<\/p>\n

During our stay, one of the most interesting aspects was precisely the atmosphere. The shared spaces are constantly inhabited \u2014 not only by guests, but also by locals \u2014 generating a welcoming and vibrant environment.<\/p>\n

Sofas, corners and tables are naturally occupied, and the overall balance between cosiness and sociability perfectly defines the hotel.<\/p>\n

A different model of hospitality<\/h6>\n

Artist Residence<\/em><\/a> is part of a group of independent hotels present in different cities across the United Kingdom, all sharing a common philosophy: prioritising identity over uniformity.<\/p>\n

In Bristol, this idea translates into a project that renounces certain standards of conventional luxury to focus on other values: authenticity, proximity and character.<\/p>\n

There is no explicit discourse, yet there is a clearly defined direction guiding every decision. The hotel doesn’t attempt to impose a predetermined experience or dictate how guests should inhabit the space; instead, it offers an environment with a strong and coherent identity, rich in nuance and character.<\/p>\n

This allows each stay to unfold in a unique and personal way, shaped by individual rhythms, preferences and moments, rather than by a fixed narrative.<\/p>\n

More than a location<\/h6>\n

The hotel\u2019s location, just a few minutes from Cabot Circus<\/span><\/span><\/em> and the creative axis of Stokes Croft<\/span><\/span><\/em>, allows easy access to some of the city\u2019s most dynamic areas.<\/p>\n

Added to this is its proximity to Gloucester Road<\/span><\/span><\/em> \u2014 one of Bristol\u2019s most characterful streets \u2014 known for its almost uninterrupted succession of independent shops, small restaurants and caf\u00e9s that reflect the everyday pulse of the neighbourhood. It is also where we find one of our regular stops: Farro Bakery<\/em>, a bakery that has become a must during any stay.<\/p>\n

Beyond its location, what is interesting is how the hotel integrates into this context. It doesn’t function as an isolated space, but as part of the life unfolding around it.<\/p>\n
